The Mission of Save Chicago Now

Save Chicago Now was founded by veteran City Hall reporter William J. Kelly with a mission to support voter education and register Chicagoans to vote. Recognizing the critical need for increased civic engagement, the organization aims to empower residents by providing accessible information about the voting process, candidates, and key issues impacting the community. This initiative comes at a crucial time, as voter turnout in Chicago remains alarmingly low. In the most recent mayoral runoff election, only 35% of Chicagoans cast their ballots, a turnout rate that is low even by the city’s historically modest standards. Save Chicago Now seeks to change this trend by fostering an informed and active electorate, ensuring that every Chicagoan has the opportunity and motivation to participate fully in the democratic process.

Restoring pride and increasing voter participation in Chicago is essential to building a stronger, more inclusive community. With only 35% of eligible voters participating in the last mayoral runoff election, it is clear that many residents feel disconnected from the political process. To address this, efforts must focus on engaging citizens through education, transparent communication, and accessible voting options. By fostering a sense of ownership and responsibility in local governance, Chicago can revive civic pride and ensure that future elections truly reflect the voices of all its diverse communities.
